Baroness Eleanor Elise ap Eiluned* of Highground
Soundtrack 2 -
A Four CD Mix

This time I did as other did and compiled songs as my brother and sister Changeling players do. But alas, I compiled so much I had 5 hours. Thus did editing and tossing songs aside take up much time. Below are the songs broken into the CDs they are on and the category they fill. Ok, sometimes songs have more than one meaning and I do mention that. Plus the stories behind them. Enjoy!!

NOTES:

CD - 1 - Events

This CD highlights songs that I feel best describe the events that happened to Eleanor over the past year and also has the whole "soundtrack" fee. Her experiences are best summed up in these songs.

The Songs:

Elenore, by the Turtles - Ok, this is my love song to Eleanor. I love her so much!! I don't CARE that she is a Mary Sue, playing her has brought me great joy so this is my love song to my character.

Look Away, by Big Country - This song reflects BEE's rebel heart and her sorrow at her past blood lust and need for power. THIS is her theme song and yes it was on the last CD but it needed repeating.

Hair of the Dog, by Nazareth - This is Defayne's theme song. He's just rotten. And his rottenness could have turned Eleanor rotten too. After all, he used her best friends, Dominic and Delizabeta, to betray her, steal her barony and attempt to kill her. Plus he turned Highground into a war zone and torture chamber.

Please Don't Judas Me, by Nazareth - Eleanor's best friends, Dominic and Delizabeta, betrayed her to help Defayne take Highground. Eleanor felt so betrayed and lost. These feelings, plus losing her home, freehold, barony, and homebase, left her a bit desperate. Those feelings weakend her for the rest of the game and left her vulnerable.

Fighter, Christina Aguilera - Eleanor seriously thought about sniper firing Defayne. She felt tougher when Highground had been won back. She also hated the fact that she couldn't do it on her own and needed help. She is incredibly grateful to those who helped defeat Defayne. On a secondary note, this is also how she felt after Feb. 19th. She would fight, but not in the way anyone would expect.

Note: Many things happened to Eleanor in between these two songs but they are covered on other CDs, specifically Love Songs for Aziraphale on CD 3.

Court of Winter, a Cirque du Soleil song - This is the song that Eleanor and Ree danced with the White Queen of the Fomoris. It was terrifying for Eleanor to do this dance, BTW. She had no idea she would do it until the moment her name was called.

Fly to the Angels, by Slaughter - This was Eleanor's mourning song for Gawayn and Petros. I also did a dance to this song. The story Tears, found on the Highground Chronicles and by clicking the link, should be read while playing this song.

Ride of the Valkyries, by Wagner - When the battle against the Blood Goddess began, Eleanor was once again called into service to serve Freya. BEE was a valkyrie for centuries and once again she led the fallen to their paradise. Note: Both IC and OOC it was very difficult to walk people to their Paradise because it meant that they were dead and BEE would not see them again on the world. The toughest was walking Sir Jain, BEE's knight, to Paradise. That was so tough. She wanted to sob and yet she knew he was going to his paradise.

Minstrel Boy, by Joe Strummer for the movie Black Hawk Down - This is the funeral song for those who fell at the Blood Goddess battle. BEE planned to play it at Sir Jain's funeral.

Not Dark Yet, by Bob Dylan - This is actually a song of hope. In the three days after the Blood Goddess battle and before all fae went to Arcadia, this song was in Eleanor's mind as she saw despair around her. Yet Eleanor is the eternal optimist and refused to give into the despair. ALSO: This is a good song for Queen Mary Elizabeth too. Especially since she listened to Dylan a lot during the early 70s.

Away With The Faeries, by Inkubus, Sukkubus - I just had to add it as well, Eleanor is fae and this song is about how the fae are now misunderstood and feared.

Aria, by The Mediaeval Baebes - The lyrics of this song talk about how children always try to catch faeries, but when they try to faeries slip away. I think it is a lovely song filled with hope and glamour. And yes, at the end of the 5 Year Story Arc, the faeries now had slipped away to Arcadia.

Dream On, by Aerosmith - For me this is the perfect "end" song as it encourages one to keep dreaming. Even though the fae may be gone from the world, people still must dream.

CD - 2 - Others and Highground

The first part of this CD holds songs that I feel best describe other characters. The second half holds songs for Highground

The Songs for Others:

Be Our Guest, from "Beauty and the Beast" - My song for the boggans. Makes me especially think of Kaye and Kathryn.

Ajaja, from "Desert Roses 3" - The song for the Brothers Grimm. It is also a belly dance tune and one of the players had a belly dancing mother so I thought it was more than appropriate. :)

Saturday Night's Alright for Fighting, redone by Kid Rock - Redcaps, definitely. Though they would sing that every night was right for fighting. And morning, afternoon, evening, etc., was good too.

Beautiful, by Moby - So a song for the sidhe. Especially when it talks about hiding which the sidhe, and their silly "nobility" games like to do.

Fernando, by ABBA - My song for Adama. So was Eleanor tempted to run off and join his forces. It was close. Very, very close.

Spiders, by Moby - First song for Lara Spiderkin. Eleanor likes Lara, and believe that through cooperation, all things can be made whole. She wanted Lara to be her heir for Highground. That got Eleanor into a LOT of trouble.

Spider Dust, from Bel Canto - Well if Lara Spiderkin scares the living daylights out of you, you will really like this song. Often makes me think of how Vlad feels about her. Frankly, Eleanor thinks its fun to ride big spiders and hang out with Lara. Then again, she has taken Lara mudding in a Jeep and has perplexed the young sluagh greatly.

As the Raven Flies, by Dan Fogelberg - This song was originally for House Eiluned, the house of secrets and magic. It also works for House Ailil and, of course, the White Queen. And ravens, blackbirds, flying through life and death. Secrets and magic, people, secrets and magic.

Sympathy for the Devil, by Redone by Guns 'N' Roses - Obviously this song is for Lucifer. I used to think this song was about how one should feel sorry for the devil. Now I think it has more of an attitude of how could you have sympathy for such a snot. I love this version, BTW.

The Roses of Success, From Chitty Chitty, Bang Bang - If this isn't a nocker song I don't know what is. From the ashes grow the roses of success!!! And a fubar or two.

She Drives Me Crazy, by Fine Young Cannibals - Thraxx's player, Kate W., mentioned this song once and well, for me, it is a song that best describes Thraxx in terms of his relationship with Eleanor. She is probably the best liege he will ever have and yet that must drive him crazy as there is nothing to rebel against. Poor Thraxx! :) Plus, well yeah, they might have slept together, even married, under different circumstances, i.e., if Eleanor hadn't married Aziraphale.

Doll On A Music Box/Truly Scrumptious, From Chitty Chitty, Bang Bang - A perfect song for Petra as I feel this song could evoke how she feels about her creations. No, Petra is not a doll, but her dolls can become real. And truly scrumptious part, well, Petra is scrumptious - just ask the King of the Gypsies!!!

Oh Bondage, Up Yours! by X-Ray Spex - The song for Claire, an NPC in Highground. Justin (Jain's player) and I were writing many stories and scenarios for Highground and Claire became a central character to our stories. Thankfully Linda B. agreed to play her. And yes, Justin and Linda think this is a good theme song for her.

He Ain't Heavy, He's My Brother, by Neil Diamond - This is how Eleanor feels about Jain. Jain is her little brother, her family, and her trusted, trusted confidantand.

The Songs for Highground:

Eiledon, by Big Country - Yes, another repeat from my first soundtrack but oh this is THE song for Highground!

Higher Ground, by Red Hot Chili Peppers - Special thanks to Kate W. who mentioned this song on her LJ after her character, Sir Thraxx, swore fealty to Eleanor. It has elements of redemption and well, yes, it fits for both Highground and Thraxx!

March of the Highguard, by Alex Lifeson - This is the processional march for Highground, to be played when the Baroness and her court enter formal functions. If you recognize it, wow. It is the first season theme song to the TV show Andromeda.

Warcraft III - A Call To Arms - The hue and cry song for Highground. Also a good secondary song for Jain and Arthur (Highground troll). Yes, it comes from Warcraft!

CD - 3 - Love Songs for Aziraphale and Queen Mary Elizabeth ap Dougal of Grass

The first part of this CD holds all of the songs describing Eleanor's feelings about and her relationship with Aziraphale. The second part are the songs for that awesome queen, that "Tough Old Bird" herself, Queen Mary Elizabeth ap Dougal of Grass who I had great honor to portray and keep alive. ;)

The Love Songs for Aziraphale:

Note: Now dear reader when I first began this game I vowed I would not have Eleanor do the silly romance thing. She was all about freedom and being a gentle revolutionary. Yeah, right. In short, NEVER challenge the Dreaming! Because when you make a pact like that with yourself the Dreaming is just going to have to kick you in the backside and then giggle the whole time you try to recover. So Eleanor fell in love with Aziraphale. I mean really in love. She was an avowed batchelorette who NEVER wanted a monogamous relationship, much less marriage and children. But then He came into her life, Lorenal Aziraphale Solarius ap Varich. And while he was protecting her on a September afternoon, Eleanor fell in love. She could even feel herself doing it. Oddly enough at the end of that game a childling, Lucretia, asked Aziraphale if Eleanor was his girlfriend. It was an awkward moment as BEE was ready to say YES YES YES! - then run and hide in terror at her new felt feelings for Aziraphale.

Their "love" story can be described as a comedy of errors and heartbreak - at least for Eleanor - as she grappled with her feelings of falling in love for the first time in her life. Go ahead, laugh. I certainly do and Eleanor laughs at herself as well. - Margaret

Eyes Like Yours, by Shakira - Aziraphale has black eyes with gold pupils and Eleanor could stare into them for hours if he would let her.

Because the Night, by the Patti Smith Group - Eleanor told Aziraphale how she felt about him on Samhain, unseelie side running amok and all that. Needless to say they spent some alone time together.

Bridge Over Troubled Water, by Simon & Garfunkel - Eleanor gave Aziraphale an iPod for Christmas with this song (and the next) on it. She wanted him to feel safe with her, she wanted to be his safe harbor.

Shelter From The Storm, by Bob Dylan - The second song Eleanor gave Aziraphale. Again she wanted to be a safe place for him and be his "shelter" from the storm of life. Plus it seems to fit in with the dark knight aura Aziraphale has.

Cry, by Faith Hill - When Aziraphale told Countess Wolfram-Smythe that Eleanor was behaving "beneath her station" by courting him, she felt betrayed. As in BETRAYED. It felt like Dom and Del all over again. She hid her feelings from everyone while in public, and then went home and lost it. Read more here at The Unbearable Loneliness of BEEing.

Wicked Games, redone by H.I.M. - Eleanor's song for Aziraphale and his betrayal of her. THE song of his betrayal I might add.

Crazy, redone by Kidney Thieves - For two months Eleanor stopped communicating with Aziraphale. She felt so ashamed and stupid for falling in love with him - especially when she wondered if he secretly wished to take Highground from her. Those old feelings of betrayal that she had felt with Dom and Del resurfaced and tormented her. There was no one to talk with about this and Eleanor felt crazy and very very very hurt.

Waterloo, by Abba - Through many little events, Eleanor and Aziraphale ended up engaged on May Day, 2006. After letting him and her obsessive love of him go, Aziraphale became her husband. Eleanor had a moment when she could have said no, but decided, yes. Afterall, she told herself, at least you love Aziraphale. The song "Waterloo" refers to that which makes you weak at the knees, that which you can't resist. Aziraphle is Eleanor's Waterloo. And she likes it that way.

Amazing Grace, redone by Ani Defranco - The song that best describes the wedding day and night.

Good Enough, by Evanescence - After being married for a while Eleanor finally felt "good enough" to be Aziraphale's wife. See, he is her Waterloo, and she does worry that he is unhappy with her and their marriage. She decided he must like her somewhat and that made her feel good enough.

The Songs for Queen Mary Elizabeth ap Dougal of Grass:

Note: Before I played this great game, my buddy Daniel McD said he thought I would make a good Queen Mary Elizabeth (QME), I was blessed to have the Story Tellers agree. I love, no wait, LOVE Queen Mary Elizabeth and think of her as the "Tough Old Bird". Well actually that is how I think she thinks of herself. I have a whole lot of non-canon stuff about her that maybe I will publish on the Wiki. - Margaret

If I Had A Hammer, by Pete Seeger - Hammer, Dougal, it all so goes together.

Are You Gonna' Go My Way, by Lenny Kravitz - This is the song that went through QME's head at the Kingdom game where she had to decide the fates of those involved in the Ifflwyn struggle.

Iko Iko, redone by Cyndi Lauper - The song that ran through QME's head during the Coronation game. QME watched all the small people bicker and fight each other and was disgusted.

Give Peace A Chance, by John Lennon - First song for the uprising in Grass.

God Save The Queen, by The Sex Pistols - Second song for the uprising in Grass. Incidentally I asked David H. if I could use this song as QME's processional march for the Kingdom game. Still can't figure out why he said no. ;)

CD - 4 - BEE Herself - The Songs of Rebellion

These songs are part of BEE's "driving" CD. When she is really angry, she gets in one of her cars and drives, blaring this music as loud as she can. Yes, BEE gets angry, really angry. Mostly she is angry at injustice and the "BS" of being a sidhe noble. Many of these songs made it to a CD after February 19, 2006 when BEE was told to reign in her free-spirited ways by those who ranked above her. She was so pissed she almost went dauntain. Seriously.

The Songs for Herself:

She's A Rebel, by Green Day - The lyrics "She's a rebel, she's a saint, she's the salt of the earth, and she's dangerous" just sum up BEE for me. Her seelie side is Saint, BTW.

Bad Reputation, by Joan Jet - Just perfect for BEE's rebellious mood. She especially gets angry at the court games of appearance rather than deeds or merit. Just ask her about the Duke of White Oaks sometime. Just ask.

Not A Virgin, by Poe - BEE serves the Goddess Freya and practices the ancient art of seidhr, Nordic sex magic. She is sexually experienced and finds the sexual double standard very irritating.

Lady Eleanor, by Lindisfarne - The lyrics make me think of Eleanor the sidhe enchantress who can bring passion and glamour to mortals. Plus "belly dancing beauty" just made me fall in love with the song.

You Don't Own Me, redone by Joan Jett - Nobody owns Eleanor. She hates being controlled. Count Varichov said it best when he told her that she was a "free spirit." This is another rebellion song against the sidhe nobility. Incidentally, BEE is very loyal to Count Varichov as he always treated her well. It was because of him that she did not lose Highground, and Aziraphale became her husband. She will be forever grateful to him.

Rebel, Rebel, redone by David Bowie - She's a rebel and this song just seemed right.

Runnin' Down A Dream, by Tom Petty - This song also makes me think of glamour and the dreaming. However in this instance it more strongly relates to the democracy lover that BEE is. As I wrote to the STs awhile ago "BEE's dream is about freedom". The following songs are her freedom songs.

Closer To The Heart, by Rush - There must be emotion and passion in one's love for justice as well as rationality. BEE believes in her heart that all must be free and held in equality. She once believed in the Dreaming right of the sidhe to rule as they wished. Needless to say she had a change of heart and hopes to inspire that in others as well.

Meet Me Half Way, by Kenny Loggins - I often thought of this as BEE's song to the Commoners. When she began to rebuild trust with the Commoners in Highground and hopes to make a better world for all fae.

Is Anybody There? from New Broadway Cast Recording - First, some geekdom here. This song of from the musical 1776, which is about the American Revolution. The role of John Adams is being sung by Brent Spiner (Data from Star Trek) who played the role in the 1994 revival. This is the musical that made BEE a lover of freedom and democracy. Also, after Feb 19, BEE signed all messages to those in positions above her as "Your Humble and Obedient". Listen to the song and you will know why. ;) (Yes, it was her gentle way of giving the finger to the upper crust.) Also this song, with the signing of the Declaration of Independence at the end, honors the new constitution in Grass.

Don't Let Me Be Misunderstood, by Santa Esmeralda - Many don't understand BEE, and she does want to be liked and love others.

Get Down With the Sickness, from Dino's "What Would Percival Do?" Soundtrack - Yes, I stole this song from another character's soundtrack. Why? Because it is the PERFECT morning sickness song!!! I'll prove it to you. Go to http://www.margaretsworld.com/changeling/highground/stories/wakeupsick.html, scroll to the bottom of the screen, click the song link, and then start to read. :)

Malaguena Salerosa, by Chingon - This is a victory song!!! It plays at the end of Kill Bill, Vol. 2 showing the Bride's victory over all of her opponents. Heh, heh. For BEE at the end of the game she has really won, and I must credit the STs for that. BEE ends the game with democracy not just in Highground, but all over!! She has an heir (she's pregnant) and Highground is once again hers! Oh yeah, BEE is feeling goooood! No wonder she comes back.

"Leave No One Behind"

*Yes, I know she is now House Fiona but that happens AFTER all of this. See the Widescreen soundtrack for that song. - ML.
